Mauro Glorioso - President Mauro
Glorioso is proud to serve as president of the Justinian Society of Lawyers
in its 88th year.Mauro Glorioso believes his greatest success is his family. Mauro is married to Pearl Marie Glorioso, also a full-blooded Italian American and he proudly boasts two children: Mary, 10-years-old, and Nicholas, 7-years-old. Mauro's ancestry can trace its roots back to the Province of Palermo, Sicily, and the tiny mountain village of San Mauro Castelverde, from where his name is derived. His four grandparents all emigrated from Italy. His parents, Mauro and Mary, both deceased, raised Mauro and his brother, Nicholas, on the South Side of Chicago with the traditional Italian American values of discipline, a solid work ethic, faith and family. Professionally, Mauro serves the State of Illinois' Property Tax Appeal Board as an Administrative Law Judge. Mauro presides over cases between taxpayers and the county board of review relating to appeals of real estate property tax. His caseload involves lengthy hearings with multiple parties and numerous attorneys on some of the largest and most complex commercial properties in Cook County. Mauro's written decisions, some of 50 pages or more in length, decide the correct real estate tax assessment of these properties. These decisions are often appealed and must withstand the scrutiny of the Illinois Appellate Court. Prior to his tenure with the State of Illinois, Mauro ran a successful private law practice. He also served as an arbitrator for the Circuit Court of Cook County and as a college instructor teaching business classes. Mauro was also a recent candidate for judge in the Circuit Court of Cook County. Mauro is a graduate of the John Marshall Law School (JMLS) and serves on the JMLS Alumni Board. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Finance from Saint Xavier College in Chicago. Mauro achieved a perfect GPA of 4.0 and was ranked first in his graduating class. He is also an alumnus of Brother Rice High School on the Southwest Side of Chicago. Mauro's professional affiliations, in addition to his service as president of the Justinian Society of Lawyers, are numerous. Among these is the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), where he currently sits on the prestigious Board of Governors, the 25-member board that directs the operations and activities of the 35,000-member statewide organization. Mauro was recently elected from his fellow board of governor members to also serve as Secretary for the ISBA. He was also a member of the ISBA's General Assembly, the supreme governing body of the ISBA, for three terms. During that time he chaired the influential Assembly Agenda and Program Committee, which determines the issues that the ISBA Assembly will consider during its meetings of its 201 members that represent the organization from all parts of the state. Mauro further initiated the ISBA’s special blue-ribbon committee to review the Governor of Illinois’ Report on Capital Punishment (2002). Mauro also has served as the ISBA's liaison to Judicial Evaluations in Cook County and Judicial Advisory Polls in areas outside of Cook County. Both committees evaluate judges up for election or retention. He also serves as the board of governor’s liaison to the ISBA's Real Estate Section Council, State and Local Tax Section Council, and Government Lawyers Committee. Mauro has also served on the ISBA’s Scope and Correlation Committee and currently serves on the special standing committee on the Unauthorized Practice of Law (UPL). Previously, he served on the special committee on the Future of the Courts. He has served for a number of years on the Justinian Society’s Executive Committee and its Scholarship Committee, which annually award close to $50,000 to deserving law students. Mauro is a member of both the Illinois and the National Association of Administrative Law Judges. Glorioso is also a member of both the Illinois Association of Trial Lawyers (ITLA) and the American Association for Justice (formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA)). Glorioso is also a member of the board of the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Chicago. He also serves as a member of the American Bar Association. Mauro enjoys time spent with his family and his community. Along with his wife, Pearl, who serves on the school board, Mauro is active in his children's school and parish, Divine Providence in Westchester. Annually, he organizes a law day skit with ten other attorneys at his children’s school. Mauro has also managed his son's baseball team for the last four years. He is a member of a number of charitable organizations including the Big Shoulders Fund, founded by his late friend Cardinal Joseph Bernardin in 1986. Big Shoulders assists low-income, inner-city Chicago Catholic Schools and their neediest students with scholarships and grants to help maintain their education in order to become productive members of society. He is also a member of the Magic Foundation which assists children with developmental and growth issues. Mauro resides in the Village of Westchester with his family. |
