Celia Guzaldo Gamrath - President
Celia Guzaldo Gamrath is the third female president of the Justinian
Society. She began her legal career as a judicial law clerk in the Fourth
and First Districts of the Appellate Court of Illinois. She is now a partner
of the law firm of Schiller, DuCanto and Fleck and concentrates in
matrimonial law and appeals on behalf of individuals whose cases mainly
involve the distribution of multi-million-dollar holdings and require
sophisticated financial expertise. Ms. Gamrath is recognized in Chicago
Magazine’s Illinois Super Lawyers as a Top 50 Female Attorney and is a part
of the Leading Lawyers Network of Top Family Law Lawyers. In 2003, the
Illinois State Bar Association Young Lawyers Division named Ms. Gamrath
“Young Lawyer of the Year,” and the Women’s Division of the Joint Civic
Committee of Italian Americans awarded her the 2003 Impresa Award. In 2002,
Ms. Gamrath was named by Law Bulletin Publishing Company as one of “40
Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch” and she also received the Alta May
Hulett Award from the Chicago Bar Association Alliance for Women.Ms. Gamrath graduated cum laude from The John Marshall Law School (“JMLS”) (J.D.) in 1994 and from Indiana University (B.S. in Business) in 1991. Ms. Gamrath teaches classes part-time and guest lectures at JMLS in the areas of family law, civil procedure, legal writing, appellate procedure, and arbitration. Ms. Gamrath was President of the JMLS Alumni Association in 2003-04 and, in 2005, was awarded a Distinguished Service Award from JMLS. She was Co-Chair of the Chicago Bar Association Alliance for Women in 2000 and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Bar Foundation. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Foundation’s Abraham Lincoln Circle of Justice and a Fellow of the Illinois Bar Foundation. Ms. Gamrath is an elected member of the Illinois State Bar Association (“ISBA”) Board of Governors and a Board member of the ISBA Mutual Insurance Company. She serves/has served on the ISBA General Assembly, and multiple committees, including Strategic Planning, Unauthorized Practice of Law (former Secretary), Women and the Law (former Chair), Bench and Bar, and the Young Lawyers Division. She is the current President of the Justinian Society of Italian American Lawyers and a past Director of the Appellate Lawyers Association. The Illinois Supreme Court has appointed Ms. Gamrath to serve on its Character and Fitness Committee.
Ms. Gamrath writes and lectures extensively in the field of matrimonial law, appeals, and other legal topics. She is a five-time award recipient in the Annual ISBA Lincoln Writing Contest. Her works have appeared in the Illinois Bar Journal, Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, American Journal of Family Law, Appellate Law Review, and other legal publications. Ms. Gamrath is married to Robert L. Gamrath III, a partner with Quarles & Brady. They have a two-year-old daughter, Caroline Grace.
